MUSIC PROGRAMS Parish Choir The Parish Choir is an Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone (SATB) choir comprised of men and women of all ages. Its function is to provide music for worship for the entire liturgical year, except for the month of August. In addition to leading hymns and service music, the choir typically prepares an Offertory anthem for Sunday worship throughout the year and, as well, offers music for special services during Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. New members are always welcomed, the only prerequisites being the following: a love of singing, a willingness to commit to regular attendance at rehearsals and services, and a basic skill in music-reading (i.e., ability to recognize time signatures, rhythmic values, and notes in either bass or treble clefs). Rehearsal times are scheduled each Wednesday 7:00-8:30 PM September through May, and Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:00 AM September through July. Interested persons are encouraged to contact Richard McPherson, Director of Music, in person, by phone (540-723-8673), or e-mail: mcpherre@comcast.net Handbell Choir The Handbell Choir is comprised of men and women of all ages. The bells play in worship services about six times a year. In addition to preparing music for scheduled services, a special focus is placed on presenting seasonal music during Advent, Lent, and Easter. The church owns a three-octave set of Schulmeric Handbells, which requires 11 players at all times. Realistically, the roster should number a total of 13-14 players since additional members are always needed to fill vacated positions and/or to serve as substitutes when regular members must be absent. No previous handbell experience is necessary in order to join the bell choir. New members will be instructed in several basic ringing techniques during the beginning of the season. Prerequisites as follows: a love of music-making, a willingness to commit to regular attendance at rehearsals and services, and a basic skill in music-reading (i.e., ability to recognize time signature, rhythmic values, and notes in either bass or treble clefs). Rehearsals occur on Wednesday 5-6 pm, September through May. No audition is necessary. Interested persons are encouraged to contact Richard McPherson, Director of Music, in person, by phone (540-723-8673), or e-mail: mcpherre@comcast.net |
